Herrity Headlines

February 9, 2025

Once again, this week took my team and I to gatherings of Republicans across the Commonwealth as we work to continue connecting with supporters new and old and spreading the word about my campaign to continue commonsense, conservative leadership in Richmond.

Our first stop this week was in Fauquier County, where I had the opportunity to speak with a fired up group of conservatives who are eager to continue improving on Republican performance in Virginia this year.

I joined a great Republican Women’s club with members from Winchester, Frederick County, and Clarke County for lunch in Winchester, and spoke about the importance of defending our conservative values through commonsense, conservative policy solutions.

From there I made my way back to the Eastern Shore for a second time, joining the Northampton Republican Committee to talk about my campaign and learn more about the issues facing their region of the Commonwealth.

The next morning I had the opportunity to speak and take questions at a breakfast for Republicans in Newport News. We talked about the importance of messaging our conservative priorities in a way that resonates with everyday people and delivers results for Virginia’s families.

That evening I joined the York County Republican Committee, a great group of friends and folks who have advanced our party by sending strong conservative leaders to Richmond the last few years, and are committed to keeping our statewide offices in Republican hands this year.

This weekend I had the opportunity to catch up with old friends and new at the annual Mount Vernon district town hall in Fairfax County.

That afternoon, I stopped through Loudoun County for a candidate petition drive and met with dozens of voters stopping through to sign their names to get our state and local candidates on the ballot for this year.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to get involved, we could use your help with collecting signatures from registered voters to ensure that my name is listed on the ballot!

Please send us an email asking for the forms, and we’ll send you the forms along with all the instructions and information you need to collect signatures from your friends and neighbors!

I was honored to announce additional exciting endorsements this week from current and former elected officials, including former Congresswoman Thelma Drake, who represented the 2nd Congressional District, and Prince William County Supervisor Tom Gordy, who represents the Brentsville District.

Representative Thelma Drake served the voters of Virginia Beach for decades, and as a Member of Congress until 2009. I’m honored to have her backing my campaign as we continue to work to earn the support of those in the Hampton Roads area.

Supervisor Tom Gordy serves the people of Brentsville on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, and his support of my campaign will make a huge impact in Western Prince William, across the county, and across Northern Virginia.

Back home in Fairfax, I continued to hold my liberal counterparts accountable for decisions that put our community at risk.

This week, news broke that a registered sex offender previously identified in Arlington County, also exposed himself to women and young girls in Fairfax County facilities.

Fairfax County policy allows individuals to use the bathroom or locker room that aligns with their gender identity – whatever gender they say that is.

I had the opportunity to speak with the family of one of those young girls, whose grandmother has been a long-time friend and supporter. The young girl is still traumatized from the incident. She had to lock herself in a restroom stall until she felt it was safe to run out of the locker room.

Unfortunately, the experience she had was enabled by Fairfax County policy, which allows people to choose the bathrooms and locker rooms that they use based on the gender they identify with that day.

That policy emboldens people like the sex offender here, who take advantage of the opportunity to prey on women and young girls in our community. They put the security of women and young girls in all of our county facilities at risk and ultimately take away a woman or girls’ ability to use our facilities at all without having to worry about their own safety or use the limited family changing rooms.

It’s time to return to common sense. Biological men have no place in women’s bathrooms or locker rooms, and I have urged my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to work with me to update our policies and protect our women and children.

What’s worse – Steve Descano, our Commonwealth’s Attorney in Fairfax, had previously declined to prosecute this registered sex offender, allowing him to continue putting women and young girls at risk.

To compound matters, Steve Descano’s office budget has more than doubled in the last four years from $4.2M in 2020 to $9.3M in 2024 , but his office is prosecuting fewer cases and winning a lower percentage of cases. Meanwhile County residents are facing a projected budget shortfall of greater than $300 million. If our Commonwealth’s Attorney won’t enforce the law and keep our community safe, his budget should be one of the first places we look to cut.

As I continue to seek the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor, I will continue to push for commonsense conservative solutions in Fairfax County as well as around the Commonwealth.

I appreciate your support both in Fairfax and across the Commonwealth and look forward to continuing to get to know you as the campaign moves forward.

Very truly yours,

Pat Herrity
Springfield District Supervisor, Fairfax County
